This week, I’ve looked into a few social media accounts which relate to marine biology.
Firstly, I came across @waterbod on instagram. The account is run by Aron Sanchez-Baranda, an artist and wildlife photographer. He takes high-quality videos of sea life in tide pools. He is located in San Fransisco, but many of the aquatic creatures in California are also very common in BC. The account focuses mainly on starfish, worms, anemones, sea slugs and chitons. Sanchez-Baranda uses the scientific names of all of the creatures he photographs, which I find incredibly interesting for identification purposes when I go out exploring.
More locally, I found the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre’s twitter and instagram accounts so I can follow along on research the centre is doing, which is exciting.
As much as I’m trying to stay away from “scrolling”, I think that following some more educational accounts will be a good break from “doomscrolling” and might provide some good news to my feeds.
